Perfection And Discontent: Understanding Existence.
Disclaimer:
I make no pretense that any of this content represents my original thought. Rather it is my concise understanding of human existence; perfection and discontent based on my life. This includes observations and interaction with others and of course reading and seeing a wide variety of media over my life-time. I wrote this credo so that I can better crystallize my thoughts and be better known by my progeny. This short dissertation can be used by others as a springboard to assess or reassess their life beliefs.

FOREWORD:
What makes us ourselves? Where did we come from and why do we exist? What is existence. Is there purpose and meaning to our existence. Questions that humans have pondered since the beginnings of self-awareness.
First a premise: Evolution is God.
In the beginning, if there was a beginning perhaps there was nothing or everything. Perhaps pre-Big Bang, there was everything as an infinitesimally small dot of a Superlative Intellect without structure that filled whatever was the “all”. This Superlative Intellect, energy or pre-energy, the head honcho or not depending on whether or not there is a big boss. Perhaps the milieu was the big boss. I beg the question of what existence in this case is. I suppose it can all be condensed into a matter of what a person chooses to believe or disbelieve. Not being clear as to the importance, a logical person could consider the whole issue moot figuring it all came about when human awareness reached the conscious state and can ask such questions and observe the Universe. Rather than a biblical god creating, human awareness and questioning created god(s), angels and spirits.
We have read about The Big Bang which was probably the biggest non bang imaginable as sound is energy propagated through matter and if there was no matter then no sound. Hence a misnomer which is of no importance. Some espouse the belief that it all started anew, spontaneously by gods or god and written proof of that exists in the words of antiquity and in the Holy Bible, the words of god. Still, it all is condensed into belief or non-belief. If god communicated with humans to convey the words, how was this achieved? Knowing the propensity of humans to lie, misunderstand and spin truth and words, how can we rely on anything which has passed from a divine being through humans. Are we to assume they were more forthright thousands of years ago than currently? The same bible documents the weaknesses of humanity in many instances. What human words or writings can we trust?
If we accept a beginning of everything in some primordial stage then we may realize that we have existed although more diffusely since the commencement of evolution n and our seemingly existence is one microphase of ongoing evolution. Everything has moved in concert orchestrated by evolution until we have arrived at our current point of individual and group perception and questioning following the human norms of the four F's; the life functions: Feeding, Fucking, Fighting and Fsleeping. All our endeavors of engineering, science, art, all human endeavors precess about these functions and their co-functions...excretion, child manufacturing by biologic templates etc. This applies to all life forms although perhaps best characterized in our species.
All human actions and concepts embody rationalization. Time as measured by our clocks; what matters or doesn’t are a human construct and have no basis for universal realities apart from the human perception and that of other high life forms. The all of everything purportedly constructed in 6 days according to one oft quoted western source or those who claim a long path over billions of years is of little import save for the human brain in its questioning.

As we were all present at the very beginning, if there was a beginning-from what-or where; we were and are always en-route. We traveled in some yet undetermined mode coalescing as a wavelet ultimately in protein and such until the day a father humped a mother and the dynamic fusion of the she/he to be ensued. We popped out from our birth bath through squishiness and yuk or through a low belly cut ala Caesar. A blobosis, we lay with meager talents of pee, poop, voice and suck but that sufficed in most cases. Ultimately, attitudes, genes, (telepathy)? and experience engaged. The empty storage bins within our evolving brains or perhaps even encoded elsewhere in our being began to fill. These processes establish our world and by which the human world sees us. Yes, to rationalize so-as -to accept or reject. To choose. The choices are the summation of all our programming, intrinsic and extrinsic including societal and is an ongoing process. So often choice is an illusion, the result of the programming more than the response to intellectual decisioning. The programming can
distort reality and underlies much of what transpires in the human world.
I. UNDERSTANDING EXISTENCE

For this essay, I shall use the terms “Superlative Intellect”, “Blueprint” and “Evolution” from time to time for emphasis of my various thoughts. Essentially, I consider these synonyms for governing laws inherent to the Universe
First, one must disabuse oneself of a caring anthropomorphic god. Secondly, we need to shed our concept of inherent right and wrong. All objective evidence denies the existence of a caring loving god. The believers in such a god can’t justify tragedies which befall the humans as the will of god without invoking the inexplicable for the inexplicable. So, we can invoke reasons such as: god’s purpose cannot be understood by mortal man; punishment by god for evils done; for sins original or by the devil’s guidance; we are here on earth to fulfill some mission ordained by god or whatever justifications the human mind can create. Is it too threatening to accept there is no purposeful explanation for what we judge to be evil or tragic that is inherent in a deity-based belief system?
Rather, I would substitute an inherent universal scheme governing every- thing which is of a Superlative Intellect see know as Evolution, the essential construct of the Universe. An evolving Blueprint of the Universe itself. Within the context of this Intellect all things which exist from the micro to the macroscale are continually evolving or changing according to the Blueprint. Within this framework, there is no inherent good and evil but rather just examples of the incredible balance and symmetry existing throughout the Universe of creation and destruction. Humans blessed or cursed by an infinitesimally small portion of this Intellect define good and evil, beauty and ugliness. Truth and justice are human creations and are always in balance with human concepts of lies and injustice. Sanity and insanity. Fairness and unfairness. Altruism and greed. Such is the human condition individually and collectively codified within us.
Time and again we may become angry and frustrated that our existence, our world, does not conform to our desires and ambitions. If we can hold these emotions in check, we may understand that our desires may not conform to the Blueprint. That which is desired is limited by the capability to achieve those goals. As part of the condition, achieving one’s material goal only moves the goal posts further out ultimately beyond reach. Spiritual goals differ from the material allowing some to find a resolution in their quest that quells the aching mind.
Understanding that we operate only within the Master Blueprint i.e.evolution can we learn to reach a balance within ourselves. Unto ourselves and within the Blueprint we are each perfect regardless of what we do and how we are. That is not to say that the quest for the human values of knowledge, truth and beauty are wrongful. Rather, we must accept or understand the counterbalance of those who do not hold such values and moreover the failure of existence unto itself to further human values. Within the order of humanity, deviation from the “norm” has been punished whether for harmful physical action against others or perceived corruption of the mind. Time and again thought and actions expressed have been severely punished as in politics; economics, religion or merely as variation from the accepted mainstream of dogma. That these thoughts exist is evidence that there is no prohibition against any thought in the Blueprint. All laws governing humans are creations of humans except of course, the physical laws of the Universe. God-given laws are a fallacy. The Grand Blueprint obeys the dictum of Evolution. The change over time and space which holds all we can perceive in its lockstep. Human modifications are only along the periphery and well within the rules of the Blueprint, Evolution, which governs the change of everything, the Universe(s) and parts.
Given our small portion of the Universal Intellect as a race and individually we may strive to meet our fulfillments in a beneficial way which minimizes individual and overall human suffering. Contra-point Intellect demonstrates no need for “good” which is a vague term with different meaning determined by class, gender, ethnicity and self-interest. Ergo, compassionate humans cannot abandon the “battle” against injustice and evil, understanding that there are no absolute limits as to what defines these terms. So, it is left to human consensus to define the limits by law.
Let me give you the issue of Israel and Palestinian rights. To resolve this issue, we must first recognize that neither a god nor the Blueprint which some could be assumed to be synonymous bestows property rights. The humans must understand that in the grand scheme of the Blueprint territorial borders are non-existent. To abandon this concept allows other avenues for resolution of a conflict which at some time may result in the destruction of human existence to which the Blueprint is indifferent. The only meaning for human existence is from humans themselves. Deletion of humanity would allow a replacement by Evolution, the Blueprint will proceed on course and any gaps will be filled.
Realize that it is the tiny bits of the Blueprint, the human Intellect, which foster human values such as economic justice, individual freedom, and rights, not some mystical, pre-ordaining force. Emphasis on human values could allow the race to continue its quest within the Blueprint. To define geographical rights based on religion is to attempt to defy the context of the Blueprint. One could say that the very tendency of humans to assume god given rights is of itself understandable although the Blueprint is indifferent as to what humans believe. Rather it is the exercise of the human Intellect a part of the Blueprint which would allow us to resolve human issues, not the intervention of the gods or a god.
My mother, Lillian Bachner Handel would invoke an expression not unique to her: “Your eyes are bigger than your stomach.” This would be in the context of a greedy child wanting more of some wonderful food yet ultimately incapable of consuming that food such as a piece of cake or consuming to the point of distress. This too is in the Blueprint where human intellect is often insufficiently matched for the intended outcome whether on the sub-nano or macro-scale. As has been stated in business and politics, we often reach a level beyond our capabilities to perform. Aspirations are often beyond ability, still it is part of the human condition to stretch one’s reach. To break the cookie-jar high on the shelve grasping for the cookies; a well-documented failure in business, war and politics. Napoleon and Hitler would have done well not to attack Russia as two glaring examples. It remains to be seen whether objective history will judge Putin’s grasp for empire another example of human overreach and hubris. This will be measured over the short course of generational observation. In any event Evolution will proceed and the wrinkles in the fabric will prove temporary.
We allude to conquering space as if it is some territory to acquire. Yet we are failing to control; to “conquer”our own earthly space what with uncontrolled climate change, pandemics, eradication of species resulting in biological imbalances; and the growing risk of nuclear war and an uninhabitable earth. How does humanity realistically achieve rising to “godhood”, to conquer all when the Blueprint includes the paths to self- annihilation? It is left to the human intellect, individually and collectively in great measure to decide the fate of humanity. The “conquest” of all that exists whether limited or unlimited is beyond humanities’ ken or grasp, but not beyond the desire to explore as far as able the reaches of the Universe. Whatever the course of humanity, the Intellect cares not a whit. The Universe will continue merrily on its Blueprint.
Einstein has been quoted as saying, “God does not play dice with the Universe.”True, whatever you may consider god! Rational thought should guide humanity to the understanding that a Blueprint governs all, not susceptible to mere chance. Even the apparent seeming variations and probabilities are framed by the overall Blueprint.
Bad things happen to good people because of the structured probabilities within the Blueprint whether by non-human events, human actions or a combination. One of many occurrences which have given me thought for this essay was the murder of a young pregnant woman and two beautiful little girls apparently by the husband/father a recurring theme of humanity since the very inception of humanity, of greater and lesser magnitude. If one believes in good and evil then perhaps the husband and wife as adults had evilness punishable by this event but why would a caring, loving god extinguish two little innocents? No, the Blueprint allows such variation in human behavior without human logical thought. Whether overwhelmed by rage, drugs or defective wiring in the husband/father’s brain, the actions were within the framework. The murders were done in an indifferent Universe, grief, and sorrow only within the being of generally accepted human values and emotions. So as humans, we can grieve, we can look for specific identifiable causation, we can punish, try to prevent future similar tragedies. but it is futile to look toward a caring god that is not there. We go on trying to heal when tragedy strikes but as such behavior is one of the countless currents in the immeasurably large stream of Evolution, variations will always prevail as life persists, human and otherwise.
More recently a 15-year-old was enabled by his parents’ worship of guns to murder four beautiful young people despite warning signs of mental imbalance in their child. They encouraged his obsessions probably as a reflection of their own. They provided easy access to the guns and so the murders. The Universe cares not. No god to deflect the gun or bullets. Guns are made to shoot and for killing. No surprise here. Humans fall short of their aspirations e.g. gun safety. Variations allowed by the Blueprint permits all possibilities. The world has been awash with deadly weapons from the earliest times when the great ape weapon was physical strength, then stones and clubs to the nuclear arsenals of today. Weapons are for killing and will be used. The Intellect has not specific plan nor regrets.
My Evolving Understanding: Start Review Here
Several years ago, I learned that my prostate specific antigen had tripled in 2 months, a very bad sign of prostate cancer progression which has to this date resisted all the proven therapies for durable remission. An aside, is the question whether I possess the cancer or the cancer with its own intellect possesses me. My oncologist basically has said that there are no more proven arrows in my quiver but from here on out it is hit or miss with the odds more likely on the miss. So, I was filled with deep despair mainly because of having to leave Carolyn who I thought needed me more than all others whom I love and hold so dear.

I again contemplated suicide to end the suspense and so upon these thoughts fell into a deep sleep. I awoke several times returning to sleep easily but then at 3:30 am I was awake, and my brain activated. It is then I started to review my situation and beliefs.
The clarity bestowed by 5 good hours of rest brought to me the following. Everything from the sub-atomic particles or energy bits to the largest astronomical entities are governed in their courses by a Superlative Intellect which is the Master Blueprint. From this vantage I saw everything in universal harmony including the human. We emerge from our beginnings with an infinitesimal sliver of the Superlative Intellect. We are enabled to use that intellect as we will to create our realities and illusions; all the thoughts, love, deeds and emotions we hold as truths and all the opposing which we may acknowledge in ourselves or others. All this is part of the Blueprint, the balancing of what we see as good and bad, love and hate. I realize that such definitions and values are but devices of the human intellect to understand and to search for meaning in life. So, you see, the Blueprint itself has no illusion of any human meanings or values. No good nor evil, no right or wrong. Rather we must use our tiny bit of intellect to construct these devices. To give meaning to the short burst of awareness we call human existence. I believe it is all that tiny bit of intellect which flows through us that is the basis for our humanity or dearth thereof. Once that intellect has departed from our physical being it then rejoins the Superlative Intellect that courses in an unimaginably infinite flow though all of creation.
Yet that Superlative Intellect has enabled us to love, to pass on the attributes we, humans, value in an unbroken chain to our physical descendants, our children and grandchildren. Equally, We transmit that those forces be they genetic or otherwise, to all we touch with love and compassion. Siblings, friends, our students, our teachers, all fellow travelers through what we perceive as life. We acknowledge too that the opposite extremes are also in an unbroken chain of hate and anger so that humanity is in a constant conflict between the two i.e., love and hate, creation and destruction.
Carolyn has assured me we all die (as if I really needed assurance) but I can view death as a return to that fathomless ocean of the Superlative Intellect.
Carolyn has said I need not be concerned about her as she can do what she needs for herself (and I add for others she loves). I now see this as truth. She will do well, as she, as most who read this if not all of you are bathed in the support of human love, not the love of some imaginary diety. Some amplfy that emotion by turning to god or some god surrogate for buttressing that emotion or to fill in for the perceived absence of such emotional support. Some feel the warmth of animal co-inhabitants.I believe that whatever works to bring a harmonious state is fine. As for the physical support for the mundane issues of internet, finance etc. Carolyn has access to all the support she might desire.
Now for the illusion of my existence vis-à-vis cancer, I will endeavor to find more arrows seek delaying the progression and to retain my sliver of intellect. When unable to do so any longer, I shall return to the mainstream of the Superlative Intellect- to go with the flow so as to speak. I do not seem to have need for formal religion as I view that as a need for many to search for and to create meaning. I applaud this for those who find comfort as the physical awareness of human existence is difficult.
Summation: RANDOM THOUGHT ON PERFECTION. You are perfect, so lovely. You can shuffle your deck with-introspection-sorting-rearranging-“soul searching”. Whatever you do, that is okay as we search for our own personal truths (our true identity?) In the quest, can we not still accept our spiritual, essential perfection? Our love, our intellect heals. I do not believe that a “god” made us in some mystical way or for any mystical intent. Rather we are perfection in our harmony with all that was and is, no matter the noise. Perfect beauty harmonious with a Universe that progresses undeterred.
On 12-07-2021 I wrote: Everything is of chance, the Quantum mechanics of changing states, time, and energy. Human intellect as a manifestation of the basis laws of the Universe-quantum mechanics-is also in continued flux. Chance within the rules of the physical Universe governs everything. The human intellect works only along the fringes. All the choices we make are often at one or more points influenced by chance, unpredictable, statistically reliable occurrences. For example, a random action by another or an environment occurrence such as a large tree falling on a passing auto ending a brilliant career or snuffing out a family with all the negative ramifications which follow. Angry seas and terrible storms have no need to take prisoners and hold for ransom. Chance, and to some immeasurable degree, human preparation are the determinants.
III. RELIGION
I would be displaying an intolerant arrogance and ignorance were I to deride the religious beliefs of billions of people of all cultures including those of the past. Alternatively, I can easily equate the varied beliefs in a supreme deity or a multitude of deities with what I term the Superlative Intellect i.e. a Blueprint, even seeing fit to honor the term with upper case letters, as though the Intellect would take note and feel complemented perhaps to my benefit. No, this is merely a carryover from the habit of “God” with an uppercase “G” and my intent to highlight the concept. I am secure however in my understanding that a loving, caring anthropomorphic god does not exist. “Res ipsa loquitur”; the evidence speaks for itself. One need only to experience living, witnessing disease and death. To read or watch the news reports and read even a bit of history is to understand, that no begging, praying, sweet talking or promises of reform or goodness can alter outcomes. Rather, human endeavors or failures influence outcomes on a personal or larger scale all within the Blueprint of probabilities and exercise of intellect. On the mega scale the Blueprint has room for all the natural disasters which befall humans and for that matter all life. e.g. the destruction of a most prominent and powerful line of creatures. The dinosaurs all gone save the avian descendants and the fossil relics. Of course, we humans and those bygone dinosaurs are the progeny of a common set of ancestors so many millions of years ago connecting all life and the pre-life circumstances which birthed all the beings that existed and currently hold reign. How foolish we humans are to debate and underline human “blood and differences” as a stated basis for hate and destruction. We humans share or so I have read, 99 + % of the same genetic material so really, what is the great difference which down through the ages has justified persecution and genocide. Slightly more pronounced differences in our genome separate humans from our first cousins, the others in the ape family and greater differences but not as great as one would think from more distant relatives in the animal kingdom and into the plant kingdom from which we may have acquired genetic material and may continue to acquire. Likelihood is that all life evolved from common primitive roots and those roots flowed from the inanimate world. In the broad philosophical sense, the trees, grasses, flowers etc. and the mountains, rivers, valleys etc. are our remote, billions of years old kindred. This brings me back to my belief in the Blueprint, a Superlative Intellect that proceeds unconcerned and uninfluenced by the offering and cajoling of humans. No fore-skins, temples, sacrifices, prayers, holy waters or what-have-you can change the Blueprint or influence the Intellect which is beyond complement or insult. So, praising or cursing god as is your want, it all falls on absent, unhearing ears and unseeing eyes except for other humans who may ignore, join or condemn you as is their bent.

IV. RETURNING TO PERFECTION AND DISCONTENT.
One recent Yom Kippur I fasted from 7 pm, the last night until 5 pm the next day, about a 22 hour fast. I did this not out of piety nor to atone but rather from my narrow view that periodic fasting may help control my cancer. Still should some supreme deity be aware of the fast and not the motive then perhaps in that Golden Book of worthiness I will at last receive some Yom Kippur credit. Maybe I could have waited another two hours for the full credit. I shall not hold my breath for any good marks for my soul as I have explained, the Blueprint has no fill-in-the-blank place for piety, repentance, Jews and Yom Kippur (my opinion of course vs the Jewish consensus of the millennia). I would even assume the contrarian opinion that if there be a god and Yom Kippur is so holy then it is god who should atone for all the wrongs done to the Jews and humanity over the eons. Again, do not wait with bated breath. Still, we can use the day (is once a year enough?) to try to repair the wrongs we may have wittingly or unknowingly done others. I do think it better to be self-aware enough to try not wrong others (a human value that varies from person to person). Prevention better than cure. Timely apologies or corrections are better than yearly. Recognize that all this is of human values and perceptions and not in the purview of a caring loving god aware of humans or their affairs.
For the human to obtain what is desired would require a perfection beyond all belief as desired goals constantly shift to the next level. So, we are locked into a state of imperfection in terms of what we wish would be our ideal existence and what we can gain. Hence comes the inherent discontent within the individual and societies. We may realize that no matter what, we are all on credit, everything is borrowed, and all must be returned to the lending Intellect. We can accept however, that we are perfect unto ourselves and our creation. To accept this may be one of the paths to inner peace and away from discontent. Of course, I do not always feel so virtuous as on occasion I decry my lot, bathing myself in discontent and my perceived inadequacies. That too is in my bit of the Blueprint.

V. CONFLICT AND WAR
The entire Universe governed by the Blueprint has at its core, conflict. Creation and destruction are not mediated by a cognizant deity. This holds true for the animate and the inanimate which transform seamlessly from one to the other.
All of humanity is typified by conflict and war. This is in the genomic part of the Blueprint that constitutes the basis for humanity. The conflict began with the transformation of the inanimate to the pre-animate and the most primitive lifeforms, early one celled, organisms. These early life-forms struggled for continued existence in a hostile world of creation and death that has continued through the eons to encompass all subsequent living creatures, plant, animal and transitioning between the two in an unbroken continuum. Humanity at the human intellectual level is a participant willing or unwilling and everything can be couched as a war or battle. The struggle for food, shelter, reproduction, air and water. We try to defy gravity by jumping higher, flight, space programs but the individual can only achieve this with death if even then. We battle diseases; cancers, infections which also have their part of the Superlative Intellect, the Blueprint, fighting we humans for their existence. We use our portion of the Blueprint to further weaponry in our warfare with each other, with plants and animals. We produce antibiotics and other drugs to combat against infections, cancers. We are pitting our intellect against their open-ended intellect similarly derived for the same Universal Intellect as ours. A sort of intrafamilial ongoing feud. We fight for honor, reproduction, economic and territorial gain either by actual physical weapons or the weapons of laws and business. We have created a complex legal system which is no more than a surrogate for actual physical violence. Our sports by and large are controlled warfare by the rules to ostensibly minimize injury. Football, boxing, mixed martial fighting and so on. In every circumstance human intellect strives to bend, bypass or destroy the rules. Breaking contracts and treaties through loopholes or by contrived excuse. Simply cheating and lying, from one perspective wrongful but from the opposite pole a strategy. My wife asks me how Yoga fits into the warfare model. Not overtly violent yet another battlefield for the individual to overcome the creeping destruction of one’s being by physical and mental attrition. A battle against ones-self for balance in this existence. Conflict and warfare are in our genome as it is in the genome of all the animate and semi-animate (plants), be it trees killing other trees by faster growth and bacteria crowding out other bacteria in a local environment; or a species of more primitive great apes on the dead end of an evolutionary branch pushed there by a more vigorous, combative species. Class warfare, mogul vs mogul to dominate industries. To live is to be in constant warfare of one sort or many. It is the Blueprint of evolution and survival. Nothing is exempt from the Darwinian “rules”. Evolution encodes “Survival of the fittest” as coined by Herbert Spencer.
Yet the human has a sliver of the Intellect which can be used to minimize the win-lose or lose-lose aspect of so many of our internecine battles and transform them to win-win scenarios for the overall betterment of humanity. It remains to be seen if that is possible or within the human will the human intellect continue to strive for win-lose. This is far from being answered and the track record is poor. Perhaps the conflict pitting humans against humans is too deeply imbedded in our genome. Perhaps the portion of humanity that has conflict more strongly in their genome from the Superlative Intellect will continue to prevail. We can see that since the beginning of recorded history, humanity as a whole has learned no over-riding herd wisdom derived from the Christs, Gandhis, Martin Kings and Mandelas and whoever has been here and still may come. So, we continue to see the imbalances condemning so much of humanity to misery and a much smaller segment to opulence. Some creatures thrive and others fall by the wayside. It has always been so and future humanity will likely prove no exception. Gather as we may in our plain churches or magnificent cathedrals to pray in unison for narrow serving goals of brotherhood, peace on earth or victory over non-believers and other foes; it is only ourselves, each other and the unyielding deaf walls which resound. The Universe has no ears.
Love, Truth , Beauty
We may each define the concepts of love, truth and beauty as we will. When we see beauty is it in the physical sense? Is truth relative and as for love, what does that most common of terms mean to each. I prefer to accept these as unity fashioned by the Blueprint and granted to us to experience as a gift. To allow our awareness to be open to this unity of humanity is perhaps the epitome of the human intellect for this unity abounds and surrounds us. It encompasses all but begs for acceptance and understanding.

All is beauty in its own manner and with the beauty is undeniable truth and love. Our intellect is allowed by the Blueprint to deviate from this humanity in the conflicts and burdens of physical existence. Yet, it is only though the active, not passive exercise of our intellect that we can see the truth inherent to all that exists. I do not conceal that I search for meaning but always return to the human creation of the concept of meaning while understanding the beauty and truth in the Blueprint from which we derive love, the essence of being human.
Whatever I think, whatever I believe, whatever I write has been written and stated and pondered countless times by countless humans and protohumans since the beginning. It is for each of us to ponder it all and give meaning to this existence and reach tranquility of mind and spirit. Nothing is original from me.
We all have wandering brains in so many directions, but to let that super-cede and destroy bonds of love without realizing the destruction and pain that it causes is a failure within one’s-self.
10/22/2018
Do we fall in love as a de novo creation that is focused on another or do we bestow it on others who are in some sort of harmony with us from the wellspring of innate love? I believe that the love is inherent within nearly all, but that it must be awakened or burnished from time to time so that it can endure. If love is not replenished constantly it will evaporate like dew on a beautiful flower. Without the soft sweet touch of the dew, nurtured roots and the gentle sun, the flower will wither and die too soon. Perhaps we have but so much emotional room for deep feelings, so that if one hates too much and too easily then there is little space for love and the hate becomes all consuming. So, to love and be loved, such human needs, one must follow that path within the Blueprint. This too can be a choice of the intellect perhaps at a subliminal level i.e., emotional intellect? Some may have deficits in the wiring of the brain or corruption of the brain by drugs which preclude love. These deficits may be visible anatomically as seen with brain imaging studies or more subtle on molecular levels.
I do not question that the Blueprint includes a continuum of love that is
imprinted in our biology including our genome, neural networks and endocrine system. This has been a human constant flowing through our non-human predecessors to ourselves. We are captive of this inheritance which is the source of all positive human emotions. Yet there is a darker side which parallels the other; animals causing such actions as the killing or mistreatment of one’s own or other’s offspring. For example, the male lion or some primates butcher the young of another male which will establish their genetic line. This is in the Blueprint as I am reasonabley confident the animal has no concept of his genetic lineage as a goal. This can be seen in the humans as the rejection of children from another male- or even female to favor one’s own progeny. Still, we know that among humans the love basis permits adoption whether formally or through the mere acquiescence of the adult regardless of the genetic lineage of the child. Indeed, this is often extended to non-human creatures which (or who?) we incorporate into our being. We also know that neural misconnections and substances can obliterate the stream of love that emanates from the Blueprint. These aberrations too are based in the Blueprint and as such will always be with us, the psychopathologies allowing hate, murder, war, and bigotry. It seems that the Blueprint allows all sorts of deviation from those which societies generally perceive as the norm. I do believe that the best course for humans is an open inquiring mind using our portion of the Intellect that governs all the animate and inanimate. Moreover, inquiring, open minds and the shared Intellect must be harmonious to overcome the intrinsic disorder in human affairs permitted by the Blueprint.

VII. HATE and GREED (10/19/2018)
Love and hate are the two extremes of emotions. I question whether or not non-human animals can love and hate and I answer my question with an affirmative. How far down the evolutionary scale or to non-humans in the other parallel evolutions one must go before my answer would be “no” is still to be pondered. For example, I can accept that mammals can love and hate, beyond merely instinctive reflexes but doubt that insects, amphibians and reptiles can experience love and hate as emotions. Still, I question my doubts. Suffering is intrinsic to life, but does this include plants and do the inanimate suffer? Do they have a translation of anger, fear, love and hate? Unknowable and unmeasurable
Are hate and greed also inherent manifestations of the human intellect as part of the Blueprint or a chosen direction of the human intellect? My belief is that these pathways are selected from alternative paths in the Blueprint by the human intellect. Yet how easily they are the chosen paths and how readily we can adapt to greed and hate allowing us to be comfortable in their grasp as beneficiaries. As victims or perceived victims of hate and greed we lament them. It seems that all the most sainted, and countless lesser known have barely tipped the scales toward love, beauty and truth. When one surveys a world of violence, greed and hate; feared stoked ethnic cleansing is it within the genetic intellect of choices of the intellect? Nuclear weapons proliferate and dictators and their enablers ordain death to those who would challenge them, as in Russia, North Korea and Arabia to select the most flagrant. Hate, greed and fear are the fuels directly or as secondary causes of a humanity’s torments. All this is in the Blueprint as are the paths toward love, truth and beauty. Each of us on the individual and societal levels can choose which paths to follow. In these regards, the human intellect has no boundaries.
As I think back on my readings and observations, it becomes clear that winners and losers, dominance and submissiveness, leaders and followers have their roots in our historical DNA. In non-human animals we see that behavior. As humans, we understand the drive toward power, rank, class. Tribal chiefs, kings and the various strata of rank down to the lowest peasant, slave, serf. Democracy has been the intellectual path that has held some promise for humanity to evolve. Still, democracy has proven easily subverted and we see the rise of anti-democratic processes within democracy which was always imperfect. Is democracy an aberration? An aberration in a humanity calling for leaders who deny the beauty of truth? Do we too easily yield to the inherent ways of animals who do not have the intellect granted the humans?
Within us we carry the paths of hate, greed, lust for power but also the intellect to understand that path and to define the limits individually and collectively. Is there a path to nourish or is the more easily and well-traveled path, that which will destroy the human race?
VIII. WHAT IS PERFECTION?
As I have earlier stated, we are all perfect unto ourselves and a pathway of the Blueprint which does not differentiate the human values as to what constitutes perfection. The human intellect creates purpose and then in our striving we reach toward some goals or status which we might term perfection. Our intellect can cause us to try to move beyond any path within the Blueprint and then the discontent becomes manifest. This may be most acutely felt as an inability to control ourselves and others. This leads to anger, annoyance, dis-like and replacement of a sense of love in the case of a deep love relationship. Especially when the relationship has not been constantly nourished. As each is perfect unto themselves it seems reasonable to me that only each can truly travel their path and all the demands of others can only at most superficially change an individual’s path. So, changes must come only from within, from the intellect of each individual. We can each endeavor to realize the perfection of everything in the Universe. It is the human quest for perfection in thought and achievements which are always just beyond reach. In the human quest for a perfection not in the Blueprint, failure for such perfection is pre-ordained. More we may take opportunity to see the Universe as perfect as constructed and work toward bringing the human world closer to the heart’s desire. In each action and achievement a bit of Nirvana may exist to given some measure of peace to aching minds. Nirvana is within reach if we open our minds and hearts.
IX. WHY WE HATE (12-3-2018)
It would seem to me that hate is built into the genetic infrastructure of the human honed over the eons of evolution as a mechanism for survival; possibly a means of energizing an action mode. So contrary to the thought that we need to be taught to hate, rather I believe we should focus on teaching not to hate, which may be the default emotion vs love. Perhaps unhating can be learned. Hate exists with so many textures and subgroups. Meaning from the trivial to those manifestations with dire consequences for peoples and nations. Fear, anger, jealously and yes, taught biases all underlay hate. A propensity to rationalize and to buy into others’ perceptions and beliefs without intellectual filtering and fact-based evidence seems to be a common weakness of the human mind. A herd instinct which calls for leaders and followers so that a leader can color and focus the group’s fears, anger, and insecurities.
My thought then is that hate is intimately intertwined with crime and war. Like crime and war, hate will always be a part of the human states of perfection and discontent, rising to the surface as discontent wells up within us for any of myriad reasons.
As dark is absence of light then we can equate hate as the absence of love. Hate may be the ultimate pre-death refuge of angst which absent any mechanism for relief from internal pain and suffering allows the individual or group to focus on accessible targets, especially the weak and defenseless. If one can be consumed by hate then all the other burdens of existence may be eased. Such is the human intellect gone astray.
A new documentary by Ken Burns, Lynn Novick and Sarah Botstein (2022) on the Holocaust recounts the failure of the US to do more in saving European Jewry from Hitler’s genocide. Genocide had been a recurrent theme in the history of humanity on small and large scale. What separates the Holocaust from all the others is the methodical implementation of the killing on a previously unknown scale. The rotten fruit of centuries of lies and hatred. Intrinsic to our genome?
X. DISORDER AND CHAOS
It seems that the Universe is orderly with inviolate laws governing all events and outcomes- a manifestation of the Superlative Intellect. Yet when we look at human affairs, and the interaction of the earth and weather with humans we see disorder and chaos. We make attempts at order by means of laws, rules and regulations, treaties between nations either formal or informal. This perceived order is so often transitory as laws and rules change- witness the overturning of a fifty-year-old law of the land -Roe v Wade. Did truth change or did religious-political power change in the Supreme Court create a new “truth”? Treaties are papers easily voided by changes in governments.
For natural events we buttress buildings, do flood control but how do we prevent volcanic activity? Regardless it would seem, that the structures of human affairs break down leading to chaos dissent, rebellion, war, disproportionate advantages real or perceive of one person, tribe, nation, or political party. These effects snowball often to the detriment of some. Judicial rulings or arbitration may provide temporary repairs, but the long-term memory of the species is truncated, relatively short in such matters leading to generational imbalances. What was once a status quo fails as regards natural events we neglect infrastructure. e.g. The descent of Venezuela from affluence of many (and perhaps poverty of many more) into dictatorship, extreme poverty and hunger. In the United States fears of change, threatened loss of power by some lead to a rise in nationalism, hatred against certain groups and from several centuries of radical leaders promising fast, easy solutions to complex problems. In local and national affairs, psychopaths cleverly disguised feed upon latent hatred, jealousies, ambitions and mis-perceptions leading to national and world- wide disasters e.g. Nazi Germany and Putin’s Russia. As far as the humans are concerned one solution does not fit all and may be even detrimental to some. So, we see that discord, hubris, greed, envy all contributes to the ongoing rise and fall of war. Humankind has a messy past, present and probable future. Keeping the genie of total destruction, which threatens humanity, bottled up but not eliminated may be the best that can be hoped for. This containment of human eradication is certainly not a given. Aside from our poisons, nuclear weapons and climate change, uncontrollable natural events such as infection, genomic corruption and space invaders may lead to the demise of our species. Either intelligent life forms or the inanimate asteroid may be guided by the orderly Blueprint. Astronomers may calculate mathematically the odds as to what may be out in space, with our planet the target guided by gravity.
XI. A most Christian Graduation
Last night a granddaughter graduated from a very Christian high school. In the various speeches Christ and god were prominent, cited as sources of inspiration and guidance to whom thanks and praise were given. The great aspirations and achievements of each newly minted graduate was announced as they traversed the stage to receive their diplomas. A wonderful tradition. Yet we can foresee the rigors of the future in the hazy crystal ball of youth. We wish them well on their life’s journey, knowing for some the duration will be all too short and tragic and for others all too long and painful. Yet we are buoyed by the hopes and aspirations of a good long life and the best of deaths. As life is all we know and the paradise of heaven only a promise, much like a promissory note written on a cloud, it behooves all to cultivate the best aspects of earthly existence.
The Christian graduation brings to mind a funeral I attended about 30 years ago. A thirteen-year-old boy died unexpectedly of a strep infection. The funeral was a celebration of Jesus with scarce a mention of the child. I don’t know if the parents were comforted by thoughts of Jesus or whether they buried their child with a deep pain unanswered.
XII Why Murder without apparent cause???
Recently another mass murder, one of many in the US, of occurred in Virginia Beach, Virginia. At least 12 fatalities occurred. The gunman had a 45 caliber semi-automatic weapon with high-capacity magazine. Police officers promptly engaged the shooter and probably prevented numerous other fatalities and injuries. So how does murder and mass murder fit into the Blueprint? Simply, murder is in our DNA, and not just human DNA but the DNA of innumerable plant and animal species. Murder extends to the microbiome where noxious agents produced by one species of mold, for example will eliminate other competitive species of microbiota. Numerous male mammals will kill the offspring of other males who they have displaced from the group. Both male and female animals may kill their young or the young of other competitive animals. Humans have killed their own or the young of possible rivals to secure their dominant position as emperor, empress, king, or queen. One wife may kill another to prevent birth of rival heirs to the kingdom or empire. In short, murder is in our genes. And what is war but organized large scale murder. Here again, it is only through the exercise of intellect (law, morality, love) by the group and individually can we box in the pre-disposition to kill. We also use the intellect in opposite fashion to rationalize murder and make it acceptable to ourselves and to our society. Even with the exercise of intellect, those whose neural perceptions deviate from what rational society considers the norm will continue to appear on the stage of life and create murder and mayhem. Putin, need I say more.
XIII June 19, 2019 SUFFERING
Is there any value to suffering? What is suffering? Do all living organisms suffer? These are questions we may ask and answer on our own. I will share my thoughts with this computer and any subsequent reader.
Suffering per se has no value from the human’s perspective, but it is intrinsic to the living organism. Withdrawal or in the extreme, death from noxious agents or events seem to be universal among all living creatures including single cell creatures and plants. Living creatures appear to cause suffering to other living creatures. Suffering is a result of pain whether physical or psychological. Perhaps psychological pain is just another form of physical pain concealed in the depths of the brain. Demented people who disfigure and cause themselves pain and suffering are probably already suffering from their dementia. Some in religious fervor may flagellate themselves to atone for perceived sins or to ease the sins of others. In this way, I presume that they derive some emotional/psychological release that may have value to them. The largest gain to an individual is when suffering is relieved, and the person returns to a more comfortable physiologic state. At that point one can appreciate so called normalcy as opposed to the suffering state, although suffering can be seen as an aspect of normality. Usually, when ill we can look forward to the illness resolving and we can feel good again. Similarly, with life’s tragedies we can take comfort in the thought that time seems to heal most things at least in part although the loss of a cherished loved one leaves scars which may traverse generations. Hope, is a powerful agent in allowing the tolerance of suffering. Hope for a better day and circumstance. It is when hope is gone that suffering becomes intolerable. So, we have euthanasia, suicide(self-euthanasia) and so-called wasting in despair. Do nonhuman animals suffer? As closely related as we are to our kin, lower intellectual forms of life, I believe that suffering is universal. Perhaps plants may suffer although I have no basis for postulating this. I do believe that aging, illnesses and loss of capabilities cause suffering that ultimately removes all hope of improvement. It is then in extreme suffering that religious beliefs such as heaven or philosophical guides may enable the individual to forbear until that time that when all the biological systems shutdown. As we experience suffering we also need to be aware that those closely interwoven into our fabric of life also suffer. Too prematurely a rent in that fabric of love and concern can result in a hole in that fabric that others may not understand. I take some solace in knowing that the Blueprint inherently has suffering and our physical demise as one very small current that is a continuum from the beginning of all things to the end of all things, if such there be a beginning and an end.
So, I see no value in suffering but accept it as a truth of existence. If one has a spiritual belief that all things inanimate and animate have a soul and may suffer then even mountains and oceans will manifest suffering. I do believe that in the fabric of love and concern for those with whom we have linkage whether closely or remotely we can do what little we may to relieve suffering. Prayer, despite my belief that prayer is heard and felt only by the prayerful may well ease the mind and ameliorate suffering. So, I do not debunk prayer only the idea that some merciful god listens and responds.
After further introspection, observation and thought, I have arrived at the conclusion that suffering is the normal default state of virtually all living organisms. Freedom from pain, sorrow and suffering of every stripe is experienced for only brief interludes. The suffering for humans maybe physical, psychological, emotional or a combination. It comes from all directions. Our predominant efforts as we go through life revolve about minimizing, avoiding, or denying suffering. Yet, in truth as suffering is intrinsic there is little we can do to control suffering. Such is the human quandary as regards suffering. 2-29-2023

Why Art And What Is Art
Art is the very core, the very essence of all in this existence. In other word it is the Blueprint itself. Everything and everywhere is of the Universal art. Humankind can now gaze back toward the beginning of the Universe with our newly deployed space telescopes, the Hubble, and the more advanced James Webb Space Telescope. The images we view are those of creation itself as a melding of art and science, actually one and the same. From the human perspective, we might distain certain bodily physiology such as respiration, maintenance of appropriate endocrine function, blood pressure, cardiac activity, and elimination of biological wastes as art. Function cannot be divorced from form, again unity. Art encompasses all manifestations of the intellect whether verbal, graphic or constructive. The human imagination is in itself an art form that allows demonstrable expression in a variety of formats. From the Blueprint we can add all the biological functions of life forms I enumerated above and all the changes occurring in the inanimate over time as aspect of the art that is of the Superlative Intellect and seen throughout the human artistic depictions.
Expression of the innate art which dwells within each of us allows the human to transcend the physical bounds which burden us as living organisms. Art is unrestricted allowing the rise above the gravity which binds us to the earth and to cast forward our intellect and innate beauty into timelessness. We realize all life from the most minute plant, animal and in between as works of art. Our self-conceit may cause us to specifically recognize only what humans do as art ignoring the source of our inspiration, a component of the Superlative Intellect. One needs only to survey all that is known in the so-called natural world, as if humanity was not natural, to realize the art, symmetry and beauty that constitutes creation. Art is all around and within us. Let us rejoice in the knowledge and appreciation! Children of, and promulgators of art! Art is eternal, universal as encoded in the Blueprint.
Are humans the only species to appreciate art or can other species know in silent awe the beauty in the heavens, earth, and seas?
XVII. ON RELIGION
From the earliest of human existence, and self-awareness, our ancestors undoubtedly understood their vulnerability to the environment. It was apparent that the human had limited control over the living and inanimate world. Hunts may or may not be successful. Crops could fail. Cities and monuments could be destroyed by volcanoes, floods, and earthquakes. Microorganisms as a basis for diseases were to be understood beginning in the 17th century, and genetics later. And so, the need for supernatural powers to be invoked allowing the human to believe they had some understanding how their world functioned. Prayer and sacrifice to magical deities or spirits would perhaps give some control over an all-powerful and mysterious environment. By acknowledging those forces appeals could be made to intercede for the humans. Almost certainly, this was one of the primordial roots of religion. Perhaps another root was the realization by classes of humans that control and practice of the supernatural beliefs and the accompanying rituals could be a means to obtain some dominance within cultures. Power and material gain. Over time the beliefs and the rituals became enshrined as well-defined religions. As a young boy, probably in my pre-teen or early teen years I was introduced to the concept that the Judeo-Christian core belief was that instead of the multitude of gods there was only one god. One true god who heard and answered prayers or not depending on worthiness. I can’t recall but I suspect that this belief in one true deity, supreme over everything was also introduced to me as the essential belief of the Muslims. I accepted this and learned to go through the motions of praying and asking god for HIS beneficence. Then, as I aged and opened my eyes and brain to the world in which I inhabit I came to understand that one true god offered no great advantage over a multitude of gods. The same fallacies that the ancients such as Egyptians, Greeks and Romans espoused got them little good over the long-haul or for that matter even over the short-term. “Results” of praying at best were a crap shoot and at worst delusional and due to actions that were often seemingly counterproductive. Perhaps it would be better to keep a low profile and not even bring yourself to god’s notice? Even now in the 21st-century polytheistic beliefs are probably practiced by greater numbers of humans then mono- theism. In Catholicism with all the saints to whom prayers are made, what with Jesus, is not Catholicism at least semi-poly-theistic? Then there is Hinduism. Atheism whether professed openly or quietly believed without overt proclamation is probably becoming more ascendant amongst the rational and educated populace. Other than persecution for their atheism by the true believers, I have seen no penalty in this life for the non-believers or for that matter in a non-existent after-life. The real risk is any contrary religious or other belief in a majority intolerant population. Of-course the faithful can invoke heaven as the ultimate benefit for true belief and practice. Hell is the ultimate cost of atheism or the wrong religion. On earth persecution and death accost the non-believers. The unanswerable questions of cost and benefit of belief and non-belief I leave for the voyager to determine on the other side of the great curtain of which none can be certain.
Recently, I encountered a true believer, a complete stranger who berated me as a sinner. She challenged my reply that I was no sinner by accusing me of sins; did I never, “… sin by whoring?” I terminated the conversation seeing no gain for either of us.
Realizing the Superlative Intellect or if you wish, god or evolution or the universe or whatever over-riding force in which one believes, that power does not spell-check or censor content. This permits me great freedom to avoid caps and to curse out all or any of the above with the foulest of thoughts and language. I am too minimal to be of any concern to the greatest of universal power. Less concern than a gnat on a gnat on the hair of a dinosaur, a noble race obliterated by that non-compassionate power with a single stroke.
Pakistan, a seemingly overwhelmingly devout Muslim country in August 2022 had terrible flooding. I wonder if most accept it as god’s will and what were their collective sins? On the large scale and small scale, god seems to disappoint.
XVIII. SLAVERY
In the United States slavery is synonymous with the enslavement of black people, yet undoubtedly slavery existed in the Americas among native people pre-European appearance. Slavery existed through-out cultures from the earliest of human times as if it is a part of the genome. I was surprised recently although I should not have been, that the Viking culture was built on slavery and that their notorious violent raiding was in great measure for the purpose of acquiring slaves to return to Scandinavia. Just another tendency to use the labor of others for one’s own needs and desires.
Humans learned early on to enslave animals and similarly placed other humans in the same categories as animals, for the labor, gratifications and even as a food in some cultures. From the advent of early Europeans in America and extending into current times, some have remained enslaved whether native peoples, Asians, whites, blacks and racially mixed. Color and ethnicity do not cause or prevent slavery. These may enhance slavery’s ease of application, but the root cause is economic gain. If we look deeply, we see that slavery exists in the USA today in secret sweat shops and prostitution. Some would go further to characterize low wages and few worker rights as the residua of slavery, or a low-level persisting slavery. Example the treatment of illegal immigrants as cheap or even enforced labor in so many countries. A bargain is hard to pass up! Slavery has been an equal opportunity custom in that slaves have become slave owners; whites have enslaved whites. Asians, blacks and all ethnicities have enslaved or enabled slavery. Where would American slavery have been without the complicity of Africans in procuring slaves for the Europeans? From a reactionary viewpoint, no doubt many would re-institute slavery if done “humanely” and with the slaves “having some rights”. Of-course slavery is a most flagrant form of injustice amongst humans where injustices burgeon about us on a daily basis. Witness the recent American administration (2016-2020) of Trump and his enablers and its actions. Like so many concepts, injustice is defined on individual and societal bases.
In America color has been one of the defining features of wealth inequity. Unequal treatment of black and other people of color people for loans, education and employment has been an important factor in propagation of poverty and “semi-slavery”. Wealth is the path to greater wealth, hence the omni-presence of almost incomprehensible wealth in individuals and families and their accompanying power throughout history. Wealth is rewarded by greater wealth. Skill, talent, and intellect may be rewarded by wealth, but poverty has no reward save for those who would gain from the poverty and lack of power of others.
To rectify the injustices of American slavery should we pay compensation to people of color? If so, what about the countless other injustices that have limited the lives and well-being of so many. I have no easy answer. The human intellect could attempt through enlightenment to define a societal justice that touches all. A difficult if not impossible task with so many currents and countercurrents in our society. To gain from the loss of others is a difficult tendency to overcome. We humans can rationalize any evil by defining what is and is not evil. And so, slavery was always justified as ordained by the gods or “the one true god” or by the inherent inferiority of some peoples, if at all questioned. The Confederacy had no shortage of “men of god” of various religious denominations who justified slavery as the will of the almighty. No difference in the minds of some today.
XVII. WHO WATCHES OVER US IF GOD DOESN’T?
I fear the answer is no omnipresent being. No god, no Jesus, no guardian angels. Jesus himself as the song goes, “Jesus walked that lonesome Valley. He had to do it by himself.” And so, no matter how many love us, no matter how closely bonded we are we still walk through this life as individuals. Knowing that others care allows us to walk accompanied by the love and existence of those to whom we are linked. Still, we must rely on ourselves to primarily care for ourselves. No matter how wonderful the doctor, no matter how supporting others are for you, you still must look after yourself. We all walk on thin ice with only a fine line separating a long happy life from possible catastrophe. The Blueprint allows so many options. For-example, ocean waves may be gentle slowly rocking us to sleep in our boat. A rogue wave or tidal wave may cause destruction. A young man, the father of six children on a beach in North Carolina loses his balance when struck by a wave. He breaks his neck and dies on the spot. A young couple enjoying at national park in Canada are found brutally murdered. The circumstances which engulf humans and nonhumans alike are statistical fluxes over which we have little or no control. The best doctors make mistakes. The best hospitals, the best airlines have breakdowns of procedures and protocols. Truly, we walk this path without any divine assistance. We flow with the tide of the Blueprint going with whatever current we encounter in the Blueprint steering our course in limited fashion.
XVIII. WHY ARE WOMEN SMALLER ON AVERAGE THAN MEN?
The Masterplan demands reproduction. Evolution has enabled reproduction by multiple means, one of which in humans is the smaller size of the female. The larger male is enabled for the physical battles, survival including mating. All living organisms must reproduce to propagate their lineage. The essential purpose of life is to live. All life functions are broadly sub-ordinated to the purpose of reproduction. Reproduction brings about change, in other words Evolution. While some species may appear not to evolve or change overtime, most probably changes do occur which are not readily appreciated by the humans. As with so many mammals, and non-mammalian species the male tends to be larger and stronger. A small, physically weak female is unable to deny sexual access to the large physically dominant male. Rape has been a common feature of the female/ male relationship throughout the eons and not just amongst the humans. So, we may look at the small female size relative to the male as another trait fostering reproduction. Factor into the equation the need of the pregnant female for protection and sustenance for her and her offspring. Despite the relatively small size of the female, the Masterplan has endowed the female with an intellect the equal of that of the male although with some differences perhaps in the emphasis in some areas of intellect. This too is of essence in propagation of the species. A female of low intellect undoubtedly has a lesser capability of nurturing the successful of the next generation. As human culture has evolved in some subcultures force multiplier’s have come about of benefit to females and males. One can argue that these force multipliers have actually benefited the females more than males. These force multipliers include laws with a responsible judicial system which enables for example in the western culture, females as never before. Female suffrage, educational equality, reproductive science, firearms and a leveled financial system are other force multipliers which benefit females. I would argue that the force multipliers for women remain insufficient. Control or lack there-of, of women’s’ own bodies, reproductive rights is currently one of the great battlefields in our society. As is often the case, religious beliefs are used to foster the subjugation of women’s bodies by the male dominant society. Some women acting on behalf of their god’s intent or by the dictates of males enable this type of slavery. Group action by women who want to resist their enslavement with the assistance of similar minded males is a great equalizing trend. This struggle is strongly reminiscent of the ongoing battle against slavery. Make no mistake however, that women even in the most advanced Western society still lag behind the male in terms of power. When one surveys retro-societies such as fundamentalists and primitive, uneducated groups we can appreciate the archaic situation of women in such countries as Saudi Arabia, India and a host of smaller nations in Africa, and Asia and South America. Institutions such as the Catholic Church, fundamental Muslims and evangelical Christians all work to retard the rights that Evolution has endowed in women.
Summarizing the abortion fight in the USA
Male physical power and female dependency led to male financial and political power from the tribal chieftains to the kings, emperors, and religious leaders in all the faiths old and new, to the dictators and politicians. Often the female has largely served the purpose of breeding stock exemplified to this day by the fundamentalist societies. In Afghanistan the female is in an enclosed cocoon, gift wrapped in cloth, uneducated to be impregnated by the powerful male reinforced by the male dominated society which is self-perpetuating and severely punitive for any female that strays.
Let me pose the question as to what is the strongest action a woman can take to reject male dominance over her mind, spirit, and body? I submit that it is to reject his offspring by preventing fertilization of her ova or destroying his offspring. So, the male dominant culture tries to prevent these female options by invoking religious, moral arguments enhanced by the submissive women who have been fed the weak pablum and indoctrinated by the male conjured religiosity. Tell me, where is this god that protects and wants to protect the sanctity of human life starting with the moment of conception. No, if there be such a caring god it is the same one that is the destroyer of untold gestations and the creator of misery. No, there is no such deity.
In short, the abortion battle is that of male dominant culture in the US mainly in the hands of white politicians and white religious leaders, to maintain their power, their possession over the female body. They are aided and abetted by females, and people of color who have been indoctrinated. They use their religiosity to condone their battle against female equality and freedom. This may not be something not even in their conscious awareness well masked by their religious fervor. Ultimately, it remains with women to unite and be joined by like-minded, males not invested in the falsities of what some non-existent anthropomorphic god desires and to control their own destinies and their intellect to come full blossom.
When does a human life begin? I am unaware that any “holy” scriptures state that a human life, personhood begins at conception. Clearly the concept is an acquired religious belief fostered by a false piety and holiness for the most part. Sanctity of life is something we may espouse but at every level of society this sanctity takes second place to economics, political, punishment by society, religious extremism, and warfare. The reason life is not sacred? The Blueprint/ordains destruction of life from in the human example, conception to varying age determined by numerous chance factors. Suppose for a moment that there is a god. Then why would an all- powerful god who ordained sanctity of life destroy as many as 3/4th of all human embryos? Did a perfect god make so many mistakes? Regardless, that god would be far and away the greatest abortionist ever. The faithful would tell you that god works his will in mysterious ways. They use the inexplicable to explain the inexplicable.
XXI ON METRICS
We all have a multitude of common needs and traits as humans and living organisms yet many aspects of our being as individuals are unique. In-utero and as young children we are measured by developmental milestones in terms of our anatomy, physiology and composite function. As we go through the various stages of our life, we continue to measure ourselves and are measured or judged by others and society in general by internal and external standards. Yet, one size does not fit at all. We are each so unique that to continue to measure ourselves solely by common standards does a disservice to our individuality. Point: We must be cautious in our self-evaluations and measurements and of others.
If we use medical treatment as an example, we realize that one antibiotic doesn't cure all infections nor does one immunization prevent all illnesses.
Examining nutrition, we can appreciate that different individuals may need different mixes of nutrients. I have read and it seems reasonable that older people need more protein than younger. Conversely, people who are more active physically need more protein and a greater input of calories. Our individual need for vitamin D intake varies according to exposure to sunlight and age. Different diets have may result in greater or less or degrees of absorption of nutrients. In essence, to some degree our individual nutritional requirements needs to be optimal although finding that optimization is difficult and complex. In this regard we can be guided by standards optimal according to your personalized needs and characteristics. e.g. menstruating females need an adequate intake of iron nutrients to ensure that they do not develop anemia which can lead to a multitude of illnesses and infirmities, some manifesting early and others later in life, sapping vigor. Likewise, as we go through life we need good sources of calcium to replenish the active metabolism which goes on in our skeleton. Calcium deficiency can bring osteoporosis. Protein deficiency is a drag on wellbeing. Vitamin B12 deficiency may occur in the older population and medications and surgeries can interfere with absorption of nutrients. The base-line essence is a well- balanced diet incorporating a wide range of nutrients. No diet fits this better than the “Mediterranean” diet. Those readers who have studied nutrition may wish to discuss details with those who have not. The Mediterranean diet can be “customized” for individual needs and preferences. A healthy diet builds a sound foundation for health and longevity. For those within the boundaries of reproduction, health of prospective mothers and fathers are a supporting foundation for healthy offspring.
Equally complex are the emotional needs of the human and for that matter the needs of all higher mammals. Here again, one size does not fit all.
The development of the brain while contingent upon genetics but also epigenetic modifiers such as stress, nutrition and a multitude of physical and sensory interactions may affect development. Activity and development of various portions of the brain have been directly correlated with a number of different activities. Above all, nurturing, bonding and demonstrable love are essential to all, excepting those with severe developmental cerebral aberrations which may block the effects of love and nurturing. We make a mistake when we substitute the rigid opinions of others and directives regarding our infant and childcare and human interactions. Parents, especially mothers who have bonded with their infant can and must use perceptions as to the needs and individuality of their child to supersede the one size fits all that may be promulgated by certain schools of thought. Of course, drawing on educated guides may be useful if those guides are not considered a “bible.” In essence, sensitive parent or parents are best equipped to help bring a child to his or her greatest potential. “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.” (Ralph Waldo Emerson). Clearly, consistency is important but as the words in the “Gambler” song state, “… you have to know when to hold them and know when to fold them…”. Nothing written or spoken can supersede the intelligent mother’s (parents) instinct (note I use the term instinct, not notions or constricted patterns learned from others), sensitivity and progressive experience as to what is best for her (their) offspring without rejecting proven science such as the benefit of immunizations. Using this sensitivity allows filtering and incorporating education from others.
XXII DENIAL AND SELF DELUSION
As with so many human aspects emotions and beliefs have broad spectra within the race and within the individual. Similarly, denial can range from the simplistic lie at the conscious level to fervent belief in a correctness which belies obvious reality. Often it seems that this correctness is a self-serving mechanism to maintain an integrated internal philosophy which gives comfort and a sense of righteousness. We take comfort in denial and self-delusion. This correctness defines each of us to ourselves and to others. It enables us to relate to others and to ourselves and provides justification for our actions. Racism can be overt and accepted as was the case in the days of slavery in the Americas. Later, it is disguised by the cloak of denial and delusion, enabling a large segment of society to justify semi-covert behavior in the guise of adhering to socially acceptable mores.
Of course, denial can be a path to truth. To deny propaganda and lies also define the human. The ability to use intellect, incorporating our experience and that of others, and observation into a framework of reality that allows us to transcend self- delusion. Yes, to some degree we need delusion to allow us to inhabit this chaotic, unpredictable world that all too often seems to be on auto pilot with no rational control. Yet the rational control of checks and balance is inherent to everything. The control of laws and truths which allow this Universe and any others which may exist. No matter the human endeavor, the prayers, the denial and self-delusions, the Universal truths are immutable although often beyond the keenest of human intellect.
Understand too that the human brain can harbor and accept opposing ideas on a given subject.
XXIII. DEBT
What debt do we owe others? What does a parent owe a child and what is the debt of a child to a parent? Another human quandy that is not easily answered as the emotions cloud the central question. Certainly, when the child is young, weak and unlearned in the ways of the world nurturing and sheltering is a necessity until the child is functional on her or his own. Many factors including cultural, economic, expectations and emotional determine the state of function in our society. Ideally, there is a progression through time and circumstances which enable the parent and child to march through the steps in a fair degree of unison. Yet, we know that so often the two are not synchronized in their joint dance from birth to maturity. Indeed, the relationships often falter on what constitutes maturity from the viewpoint of both. Hence, conflict and strain on the bonds of mutual love by differing perspectives and desires. So perhaps the major parental debt, assuming the child is not severely impaired in some manner, is discharged by achieving the fulfillment of a mature personal responsibility on the part of the child. This entails the need for a parent turning loose of the child. And the child must be prepared to relinquish that comfortable sweet breast which has provided sustenance. An expected healthy separate is to be applauded. At some point in my own experience time brings a mature reunion. As a corollary, in our society other issues such as assistance for higher education are perhaps best handled as a contractual business decision. Both must adhere to the terms of the contract. The debt of the child to the parent is fulfilled achieving a strong independence. Beyond the above, we can hope that bonds of love and mutual respect are nurtured by both.
If we are indebted, it is first to ourselves which we can repay ourselves with tranquility and equanimity. This can radiate outward to others, for example mother and child to heal the breach in an inherent love relationship suffering from wounded perceptions. Renewal of a harmonious love.
XXIV. Deceit; Lies, Cheating and Deception.
Life is in good measure dependent on deceit and lies and as such are evolutionary; part of the Masterplan. Deceit is part of the plant where carnivorous plants lure insects and other small animals to their doom with attractive scents and appearances. Flowers encourage insects to help with reproduction by attractive attributes. The animal kingdom is rife with, indeed dependent upon deceit. Think animal mimicry, camouflage where deceit is used to protect, defend and obtain prey. For animals, that is the name of the game; and without shame. No shame in avoiding being eaten by a lie or by eating because of a lie.
Humans however have the skill set of applied intellect which can be used for none of the direct purposes of eating or being eaten. So why do humans lie and use deceit? If we are starving, to get food. If we are being under attack, to stay intact. We will lie and cheat to protect our offspring or to attempt to advantage them such as spend thousands of dollars to bribe and get our kids into more favorable schools. We may do so to advance our own self-esteem or bragging rights. We will accept bribes for the economic gains. For the power which may ensue. Perhaps an endocrine rush is addictive to our brains when we successfully win by any means. So, humans devise rules, regulations and laws. We define right and wrong all of which are of human intellectual origin and vary by culture and sub-culture. And as Evolution trumps all, we have work- arounds and loopholes enabling lies, deception and cheating to continue, regardless of rules, regulations and laws. Treaties and contracts are notoriously voided on pretext to further economic or political advantage. To paraphrase, a treaty between nations is only a piece of paper easily ripped up.
In the context of humans, unfaithfulness to one’s partner is evolutionary also. Laws forbidding this behavior in some cultures invoke severe penalties including death. Other cultures may have polygamy or promiscuity as norms. (what is divorce other than serial polygamy or promiscuity; annulling of long standing marriages in the Catholic church to allow a Catholic marriage). Other cultures may have laws enabling forgiveness or work arounds. All cultural, these are dependent on human intellect to allow a broad range of accepted human behavior. So, obviously of no intrinsic right or wrong. Just cultural rights and wrongs.
Lies and deceit permeate all human endeavors. The lie of inferiority of one culture or race relative to another to justify behavior to increase wealth and power. The common example is slavery in the Americas and all its continuing aftermath. The intellectual inferiority of women. Husbands, male siblings, male scientists claiming the achievements as their own which rightfully belonged to a woman, whether in art, music or science. And of course, the student who outshines her/his teacher only to be denied the acknowledgement and gain which would accrue.
A husband who can’t compete with a wife may use lying to debunk and belittle the brilliance of his partner to her and perhaps to himself. A trick used in all spheres of human endeavor. Cheat, lie, deceit to win or to enhance one’s self-esteem. To convince the other of their deficiencies. Ego, stronger in the male as the cultures generally have fostered the deceit of female ineptitude. This culture force by far has not spent itself. All the while the Blueprint has all pathways open and humankind within relatively narrow pathways uses intellect for choices individually and collectively. What after all is rationalization but use of intellect to justify a result, we desire, an evolutionary use of intellect. Lesser creatures need no rationalizing for actions taken any more than plants rationalize. Sacred writings are accepted as divine inspired but built on lies or self- deception and then propagated through the ages. Wars are begun on the basis of lies and hyperbole.

On Predation
In an Op-ED In the Washington Post, June 11, 2021 Natalie Joynton is waiting for “…. that conversation about why simply seeking outdoor exercise is a mortal danger for women.”
We can converse all we wish but in this world of predation for all living organisms, predatory behavior of the strong on the weak is the norm. We may try to separate the human from the others but as a species, we are no different. We are great apes. Our race is opportunist, aggressive and predatory whether in sanctioned activities such as athletics, business, politics, interpersonal contacts and internationally between nations.
This is in our genetics. Certainly, higher intellectual restraints can modify such behavior which is predominately but not exclusively in the male. Yet, despite millennia of civilization, religion, development of ethics, laws and institutions, the problem remains. Not just for women jogging or exercising alone but between relationships i.e., males (and to lesser degree, females) abusive toward their partners, their children, parents; and strangers. Science advancing humanity in almost a mirror image, despite discourse, has enabled destruction of our environment and propagation of weapons of war which threaten humanity’s existence. Every advance of science/technology has had a counter negative cost. Moreover, a human brain which has inability for self-restraint may go amuck when external restrains are not present. The vulnerable will always be targets of opportunity for others.
So, one can hope for discourse about Ms. Joynton’s concerns, which are very real and valid. Conversations, however, will bring about little change just as national and international conversations have to date accomplished little as regards climate change, recycling, war prevention, persecution, bigotry and other major world issues, let alone the abuse and dangers of women. Rather, incentives, allies, a strong defense and deterrence power have always been the best tickets for survival for all forms of life and for furthering humanities best goals.
This is not to say that conversations are unhelpful and not needed. Rather, there is no way to factor in variables such as the rogue mind which causes interpersonal, national, or international disasters in a quest for self-gratification, wealth, and power over others.
I suggest all women (men and children too) who are isolated whether exercising or otherwise out, to be cognizant of their surroundings including people and blind spots. Early reaction and avoidance are best. Layers of self-protection including basic physical self-protection skills, a trusted running partner(s) if possible, a large dog, pepper spray and yes, a firearm with the knowhow to use. These are all strategies for survival. When running, run strong and with confidence. Stay alive to enjoy the beauty that surrounds us.
Since writing the above, Putin has caused the Russian invasion of the Ukraine. He has used his intellect to further his internal goals of power, wealth, control and has had minions to follow his lead through fear, greed, just basic human aggression. War between nations and individuals is multifactorial. Honor, greed, belief in a god given path, the “call of destiny”, reclaiming a lost right or accidentally, or intentional wrongs. The human intellect has no boundaries for lies, deceit, self-deception, and rationalization. Today’s persecuted are tomorrow’s persecutors. For example, the early Christians knew torment and persecution. Once in power, centuries of religious killings of non-Christians, and wrong minded Christians ensued. The head of the Russian Orthodox church condones the Ukrainian invasion. The leader of the Ukrainian Orthodox church decries the invasion and murder. Yet their unfeeling, deaf god has no comment.
XXVI Does prayer work? Does prayer have value?
I would say that if you pray and it makes you feel better, go ahead and do so. I personally have never felt any gain from prayer nor witnessed andy positive effect. As sayings go: god helps those who help them- selves.”; “praise the lord and pass the ammunition” etc.
XXVII THE UKRAINE WAR
The Russian invasion of the Ukraine on Feb 24, 2022 has been attributed to multiple different reasons. NATO threatening crowding Russia, Nazis in the Ukraine, Ukraine was never a country and always part of Russia. Regardless of any reasons the simple facts are that Vladimir Putin has been planning the conquest of the Ukraine to enable his dream of restoring Russia to the “glories” under the Czars and the Soviet Union, following a game plan that encompassed Chechnya, Georgia, Syria, Crimea and the Donetsk and Luhansk. He is the modern day Russian Czar in his mind and to the world. This seems to be Putin’s calling in life, in his mind, as though he was sent by god as the messiah for Russia. In all actuality, Putin exhibits a “traditional” aggressive, expansionist Russian behavior over many centuries. Putin acted when he thought his war machine was ready, his treasury full and much of the world dependent on Russian energy. All this reinforced by a nuclear arsenal. These preparations notably a strong treasury, and a war primed machine are the same from the ancient Greeks to Nazi Germany. The ancient Athenians had a powerful empire, the strongest fleet in the Hellenes and a full treasury. They came into continued conflict with the Spartan coalition. Their strengths led them to believe that was the only way to increase their hegemony. Time would show the intervention of factors beyond their control including a resolute Sparta and a plague which killed many Athenians including Pericles. Ultimately the “great power” conflict of ancient Greece would end with a disastrous invasion of Syracuse on Sicily, depletion of Greek population and allow the rise of a new power to the north, Macedonia. All aggressive nations will propose reasons for their aggression which may disguise their true reasons. So,we see deception and lies to justify war. Trade alliances to bind other nations to the aggressor is also nothing new as we see with Russia, vis a vis Hungary, Serbia, China, India, and Western Europe especially Germany as regards energy. The one factor that previous aggressors lacked was a nuclear arsenal which could be used as a threat to forego intervention by other power nations. All this is embedded in the human genome which encompasses quest for power, self-aggrandizement, and hubris. As in the past innumerable times once a war starts, the unknown, unpredictable variables begin the make themselves apparent. I believe we can say that war is so deep in the creatures of the world that no war is truly ended but segues into the next whether over brief intervals or even centuries.
Thus in search of aggressive perfection and discontent with less than a “wrongful” status quo, humanity may well be on the path to destruction of the species. Only a collective use of intellect may redirect the course upon which the human race is set. I would bet against an intellectual enlightenment except that if such is not forthgoing than no one will be left to collect the “winnings”.
XXIX. EVOLUTION
Why does a segment of humanity deny the process of Evolution as pertains to the human specifically and the animal world in general? Lack of education, contrary religious beliefs, and political gain. The uneducated have little if any awareness of the science behind Evolution; genetics, fossils, and variations of species. Some societies past and present recognize the unity of all life without understanding the underlying basis. Within the literate world with varying degrees of education mischaracterization of Evolution is common. Literal belief in ancient legends and holy books such as the Judeo-Christian bible foster the narrative of a creation with set pieces which do not change. Political and religious leaders some no doubt knowing better capitalize on this religious beliefs to enhance their power. Rejection of Evolution is a blindness to truth and represents a safe place in the brain. and The concept of change is threatening to their core beliefs. Yet, Evolution which represents change over time is inherent to everything in the Universe. The medical advances which increasingly embody recognizing and using genetic under-standing, the use physics and chemistry in the modern world of rapidly evolving technology. Literally all we see and touch in the world sings the song of Evolution. Unfortunately, the consequences of some of the human induced change is profane e.g., the evolution of weaponry.
Is there a remedy for ignorance despite education? The future of Humanity may lie in extensive use of Intellect to choose beneficial paths within the Blueprint. I foresee scant hope for a Humanity guided by belief over science and emotion over-ruling intellect.
XXX. What is our true legacy?
I have wrestled with this question and have concluded that what we leave behind for our progeny and humanity in general are those infinitesimally small bits of out intellect which is embodied by what we have created or to which we contributed. If you take the Mona Lisa as an example, the actual work of art is of lesser importance than the intellectual advancement DaVinci bestowed to humanity. His physical works are iconic tributes to his genius yet, were they all to disappear the intellectual transfer to so many since his times would be his lasting legacy. So it is with all humanities’ creations. You may argue that a legacy of love also carries forward and I do not disagree but suggest that love is intimately connected to intellect and that both stem from DNA which has evolved since the beginning of time. DNA is a manifestation of evolutionary Intellect in the animate, an Intellect which is inherent in the Universe and inherent to all things animate and inanimate. Thus, it is our individual bit of Intellect or DNA which we pass forward to our progeny and the world for humanities betterment or detriment.
Science is the human understanding of natural flow of all intellect emanating from the beginnings of the universe. The human intellect is but a minute portion and must be cultivated as a living garden for the construct of humanity's future. Otherwise, it is to abdicate the future to non-human life forms, terrestrial or extra-terrestrial.
XXXI. ILLNESS, DYING AND DEATH
So much has been written on the personal journeys of illness and mortality. My own comfort level in dealing with this has fluctuated. Stories are literally carved in stone all over our planet, poetry, literary works, music, art work have all given vent to the preoccupation of the human with death. Each day is a prelude to dying, opportunity to realize the joys of living and to experience the pain of sorrow and suffering of sickness and loss of those we hold dear. Yet to lose the joys of life by dwelling in the not-to-be-denied-death is too high a price. For many heaven awaits them and an eternity of happiness with those they loved and went before. Others have spiritual concepts which provide comfort. I am in that later group.
I have a few times lulled myself to sleep anticipating some sort of heaven where all the humans who have died are there. How would we meet up with those closest to us, and all the previous generations since the beginning of humanity in such a throng. How would we recognize and even communicate with those several generations before? I suppose, if one is a believer then the same god who created everything will have translators and facial recognition software which will enable, making all things possible. As the believer expects to spend eternity in heaven then there is ample time to meet and renew old acquaintances and kin.
